Is Fireball Cinnamon Whisky Low Carb or Keto Friendly?

There are a handful of types of people who drink Fireball. 1. Those who want an easier shot to take. 2. Those secretly love that after burn and think others do too (you sadistic queen). 3. Those that are fireball fanatics – there’s always one in the group. If this is you, we already know who you are because you not only admit it, but you let everyone know (like everyone in the bar). That’s just the type of person you are, and we all love you for it, even when you are pushing rounds of it on everyone.

But let’s get to the point of why you are here…

Is Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey Low Carb and Does It Fit a Keto Diet?

No. Sadly, that bottle of fireball whiskey is not low carb and definitely does not fit a keto diet. At least not the store-bought version you are used to.

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky (1.5 oz)
108 calories, 27 g carbs, 11 g sugar, 0 g fat, 0 g protein.

On a ketogenic diet, on average you are looking to have under 20 g net carbs. One fireball shot will put you over.

For a low-carb diet, you are looking on average to stay under 70-100 g of carbs. On special occasions, you might want to splurge your daily carbs during happy hour, so you can fit one fireball shot in, but there are much better options.

So where does this Sugar come from?

Whisky itself has zero carbs. The sugars are taken out during the fermentation process. If you are looking for a low-carb cocktail or drink then whisky itself makes a good choice.

But your beloved fireball shot is packed full of sugar. In fact, about 1/4 of it is sugar. That is a high sugar content for alcoholic drinks.

To add in that sweet yet burning sensation from hell, Fireball had to add some secret ingredients into your favorite beverage. The not-so-secret ingredients are added sugar and high fructose corn syrup. You’ll find that many flavored alcoholic beverages have these two keto killers added in, giving your beverage a high carb count.

I can already feel a fiery cinnamon rage building inside of you, but not all is lost. Let’s find you a better low carb option.

Other Cinnamon Whisky Brands:

There are other options when it comes to cinnamon flavored whisky, with different brands packing their own punch. What’s hard about this alcohol is finding the nutrition information. Two brands make it easy and have it on their website. Both Jack Daniels and Yukon Jack have lower carb options:

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire
116 calories, 8 g carbs, 8 g sugar, 0 g fat, 0 g protein.

Yukon Jack Fire Cinnamon Whiskey
125 calories, 11 g carbs, 11 g sugar, 0 g fat, 0 g protein.

Unlike drinking Whisky neat, these still have a high carb content per shot. But when compared to Fireball – grams of carbohydrates per alcohol consumption – these two brands are better options.

Make Your Own Low Carb Cinnamon Whisky

I know what you’re thinking – I do not have a distillery. No problem! It’s actually easy to flavor your own whisky. Now, it won’t be exactly the same taste as Fireball, but you can craft your own home version to your liking with a lot less sugar.

Homemade Cinnamon Whisky:
Take your favorite bottle of Whisky
Add 3-5 Cinnamon sticks in
Let it sit for about 5 days

It’s that simple. Play around with the amount of cinnamon and for how long until it gets to your liking.

If you want a sweeter shot, then make a zero sugar simple syrup to add to your drink recipe or shot. I do recommend adding it in to a small amount to find the right ratio instead of the entire bottle at first.

No-Carb Simple Syrup:
1 part water
1 part no-carb sweetener (think Stevia, Monk Fruit, or similar)
Add both into a small pan. (For a first batch try 1 cup water and 1 cup sweetener). Stir together. Bring to simmer. Stir with a whisk until it dissolves completely. Let it cool and you are ready to add it to your favorite cocktail recipes.

You can even go a step further and add the cinnamon into the simple syrup instead of (or in addition to) the bottle of whisky. Just add a cinnamon stick to the process or even ground cinnamon. Play around and find your perfect ratio. You can even play with other flavors like vanilla or lemon juice- just add a bit of extract into the simple syrup.

With this simple home recipe, you can find drink love with a whole new line of low carb cocktails and keto whiskey drinks.
